Playa Giron
Playa Giron takes its name from a French pirate who once made the area unsafe. Today, Playa Giron is primarily the destination of divers and snorkelers from all over the world. The village itself is a village with about 2,000 inhabitants and a dreamy charm. On the beach, the shallow ground drops away to a wall of black coral. Here you can observe amber fish and small tuna fish. During the invasion in the Bay of Pigs in 1961 1300 Cuban exiles and CIA consultants landed in Playa Giron with the aim to overthrow the young government of Fidel Castro. After only 3 days they failed miserably. Prior to the United Nations General Assembly, the US government initially denied any involvement in the invasion, and later President John F. Kennedy took full responsibility.
